The Story
Springbank 9 Years Local Barley is a Campbeltown single malt whisky distilled at Springbank using barley grown locally around the distillery. Matured for nine years and bottled at 57.7 percent ABV, it reflects Springbank’s traditional production methods and terroir-driven approach.
This release was aged in a thoughtful combination of ex-bourbon casks and a smaller proportion of ex-sherry casks, bringing both fresh malt sweetness and gentle dried fruit nuance to the profile. Rather than following a fixed age progression, Springbank’s Local Barley series is defined by the character of the available stocks and the quality of the barley for that year. In this case, the casks selected for maturation reached their ideal balance of structure, aroma and depth at nine years, so that age statement was chosen to represent the spirit at its most expressive in this release.
The whisky shows fresh coastal malt, mild smoke and earthy depth, with a rounded texture shaped by both cask influence and local barley character. Small batch in nature, Local Barley releases appeal to collectors and long time Springbank followers who enjoy seeing how raw material and maturation choices shape the final whisky.
